One of the important aims of the roadHoG Bus Youth Project is bridging the gap between communities and young people, having volunteers giving their time to be with and listen to young people is a key aim of the project.
We welcome and value appropriate adults who will be able to help on the bus staff. There are three different ways in which you can volunteer on the roadHoG bus:
Bus Staff These are volunteers who come on board and work with young people; serving in the cafe, supervising the play stations, playing board games, leading sports activities outside, helping with a craft activity or special project or simply listening. The volunteer’s primary aim is to ensure that roadHoG is a safe place for young people. The Bus Staff work under the supervision of the Project Manager.
Bus Drivers These are volunteers who, after safety checks, will drive the bus to and from the community. Bus drivers will be required to have a clean driving licence (Cat B before 1997), at least 25 years old and with at least 10 hours bus driving experience.
Working Group These are volunteers who are able to help with the maintenance of the bus: cleaning the bus, checking supplies, mechanical maintenance, levels checking and ensuring a high quality of health and safety on a weekly basis. Mechanical experience would be helpful, but not essential.
Each volunteer will be required to meet all criteria in LYM Ltd’s Child Protection policy, including an enhanced CRB check and the LYM Volunteers Formwhich includes a character references. Each volunteer will be required to complete a three session Bus Safety and Familiarisation Training.
