The House of God on the road were the initial words that inspired the project. Now the term greener has begun to weave itself into the vision. What does this mean? Why has this concept been introduced? Continue reading to discover more.
When our project became a reality in 2009, we raised funds, designed, and built our first bus, which only allowed us to acquire an out-of-service vehicle. This bus had served Lincolnshire for nearly 20 years, equipped with technology from the late 1980s, and quickly turned out to be a smoky contender!
In 2022, after engaging with our community, we realized it was essential to continue the project, but not at the expense of a high carbon footprint. We knew the needs of our community, but should we be doing this at the expense of the environment? Being responsible stewards of God’s creation is crucial to us. So we began exploring a ‘greener’ road forward. While an all-electric bus was well beyond our reach, we found that adopting a cleaner engine with a Euro 6 catalytic converter and reducing generator usage was a more affordable and sustainable option.
We had two advantages to help us become a better steward. We had a bus roof top out in all weather. Additionally, we had grant enablers to help us overcome expensive equipment. The result was an ex-London service bus and the installation solar panels installed on the roof. Both obtained with help from the Biker Trust and the Benefact Trust.
